Tigers Are Not Afraid

Let me just tell you a little bit about this weekend. I watched two non-American made horror films at the theater this weekend. To say I wasn’t a little be excited by the two films would be a big ass lie. Nope, I couldn’t wait to see these films. The thing about non-American made horror films is that the unfamiliarity with the actors allows for me to really get into the story. It is hard to do that with american horror films. Especially with well know actors in them. The story telling aspect gets sidetrack due toe the fact is becomes a vehicle to a star branding project.

Anyways Tigers Are Not Afraid was the first film I saw. Normally I hate ghost stories. But this films intertwined a ghost story with the real life horrors of the drug cartel violence in Mexico. The children who acting holds the film together are incredible. Between the supernatural stuff and the real-life dangers surrounding them. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the film. The film takes some chances and I commend them for taking risks not normally seen in films. This is a very good film and is worth the price of admission.

I’m definitely going to check out the write and director Issa Lopez’s next film. Which from what I’ve heard will be a western werewolf film. And her current film feels like it was heavily influenced by Guillermo del Toro and his incredible film Pan’s Labyrinth. I’m sure her next film will have a different vibe. However, knowing that she is team up with Guillermo makes the project exciting as hell. As she has proven herself to be a voice worth hearing from in cinema.
