I am a sucker for horror anthologies. Some are hit. While most are misses. Instead of focusing on the entire movie. I will focus on just one segment from the XX anthology. But before I do that. I will say the entire film is interesting and worth a viewing.
However, the one segment from the all female-directed anthology movie XX, that I loved and want to talk about is called “The Birthday Party.” It about what happens when a father dies at home the day of him and his wife’s daughter’s birthday party. There is not much else to say about the segment except for the fact it was directed by Annie Clark from St. Vincent. I feel as though she did an excellent job. Her segment was, in my opinion, the best out of the four shorts in the movie. I need to see if she has done anything else. But she co-wrote and directed a short that was cute, sad, funny, and even sexy. I remember the mixture of all those elements worked well. Her ending of the segment was perfectly executed by the entire cast. All I can say is I’m looking forward to whatever she decides to do next in the horror genre.
