As a person that thought that the movie Midsommar was pretty much a waste of time and not a great film about the effects of psychological trauma. Whereas the reason why I suggest that you #checkthismovieout is because Roman Polanski’s Repulsion is that film. There are many theories of what is actually wrong with Carol Ledoux who is played by a very young and beautiful Catherine Deneuve. The character Carol Ledoux has been called a myriad of things. From “neurotic, sexually abused, psychotic, schizophrenic, and even man hater” the character’s mental state has been the source of so many discussions online. I personally rather just say she was troubled.
And this troubled person carried what was such a slow descent into madness. What started it is unknown. But the results of those troubles forever shaped the life of family, friends, people close to her, and most importantly, herself. The saddest part about this character’s unfortunate journey is that it feels like it was destined to happen. Her downfall was beyond her control.
Cool fact about the film is that this was the first of trilogy films Polanksi centered around horror events occurring in an apartment. The other films were Rosemary’s Baby and The Tenant.
