This is one of the saddest films that I have ever watched. Bong Joon-ho’s film Memories of Murder has always been a tough watch. There is nothing pleasant about watching a town living in fear because a man was out there raping and killing women. The reality for the residents of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea between the years of 1989 to 1991was one ruled by fear. 10 rapes and murders were committed and ended without a person being charged and found guilty of those crimes. This film goes hard at the difficulties that South Korea had with dealing with a serial rapist/murderer in the 1980s. And the toll it took on the city and detectives find themselves in unfamiliar territory.
Check out this movie. It is streaming on Amazon Prime. Also as of today, the South Korean authorities have finally put a name to the murders. To read more click on the link. Updated Info.
