I always have a soft spot of films done in my birth city. It is something beautiful about seeing streets and landmarks you familiar with on the big screen. People from Los Angeles and New York are spoiled. They see their city all the time. It must be nice. Anyways the film I want to talk about that was shot in the beautiful city of Brotherly Love is called Blow Out. This film not only showcasing my city. It also showcases the incredible talents of a young Brian De Palma. Who was already hitting his stride as a director. Sisters, Phantom of the Paradis, Obsession, Carrie, The Fury, and Dressed to Kill were already a catalog to be envious of. Created another classic and a personal favorite of mine with John Travolta and Nancy Allen and an amazing story about political intrigue and the relentless pursuit of a deadly killer.
For Sally (Nancy Allen), Jack Terri (John Travolta) appeared to be at the right place at the right time. However for both people. It turned out to be the worst place they could ever be. The two people who found themselves in the dark waters of the Schuylkill River. Find themselves in much darker and deeper waters as they realize they are witnesses to a murder. Their survival puts them in constant peril. And the danger won’t relent until their voice is muted.
I find this to be a much better film and villain than in his previous film, Dressed to Kill. If a movie is as good as the villain then that explains what makes this film stand out. Burke played by John Lithgow is the perfect villain. I can tell you that John oozes danger. I doubt you won’t find this movie to be amazing. And the ending… Perfect. Please check out this movie.
